How to Configure Alternate DNS Server

Description: By default, the NetXGATE DNS Resolver queries the root DNS servers directly and does not use DNS servers configured under Alternate DNS Servers . This behavior may be changed, however, using below DNS Forwarder option. By contacting the roots directly by default, it eliminates many issues typically encountered by users with incorrect local DNS configurations, and the DNS results are more trustworthy and verifiable with Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC).
Another purpose of the alternate DNS servers are specified for load balancing on busy networks, if the primary DNS server is busy, it can forward requests to the alternate DNS server.

Below steps shall be followed to configure Alternate DNS in NetXGATE Firewall.

Steps to be followed:

1: Login to NetXGATE NG Firewall.
2: Go to Configuration , then Network Settings , here you will get Alternate DNS Servers option .
3: Click the + (Add) icon over ‘Alternate DNS Servers’ window to add a New DNS server .
4: Under Domain Name field enter: *.* .
5: Under Description - Enter a description related to the server being configured for your reference.
6: Under Add DNS Server IP 1 field, enter appropriate DNS Server IP. The DNS Server IP will be used to resolve DNS from your ¬Firewall. ( e.g: 8.8.8.8 ).
7: Select Recursion as Enable , Default Value- Disable.
After making the above necessary configuration, Click Save and Restart Service.
